Our Horse Rehab program gives you the chance to experience a working horse farm and to be a part of the day-to-day life of a tourism trail business and rehabilitation center.  Chintsa Horses has been running for ten years and although the operation is reliant on the tourism trade to maintain the horses and run the rehab center, it is the love of horses that keeps this operation running successfully.  Over the years, the local South African government has asked the this facility to assist with horses that have been removed from places of neglect.  This has led to the creation of a rehab center.  It is this project that is aimed at nurturing abused horses back to good health.  The project strives to rehabilitate horses to the point where they can be ridden again and it is these very horses that are used on trails.

The program includes an orientation that will cover: an introduction to the center, its staff, horses and backgrounds, daily routine of the staff and volunteers, background of the feeding program, an outline of the rehabilitation project and basic horse handling and care.  You will be given three meals a day and accommodations are shared cottages overlooking the lagoon or river in the village of Chintsa East.  Both houses are within walking distance of the beach, and you will have free access to canoes and boogie boards.  During your final weekend, you will head out on a two-day trail along one of South Africa’s most special coastlines, the Wild Coast.

Volunteer Activities may include:
Caring for the horses including grooming, lunging, exercising and schooling work;
Help feed all of the horses on the farm;
Work with different horses and help rehabilitate them according to their individual needs;
Help with different barn chores around the farm and in the stables;
Participate and help during the beach trails booked with the Chintsa Horses;
Participate in a final two-day riding trail along the Wild Coast.

All GeoVisions programs include accommodation and meals, airport pick-up, project training, in country support, medical insurance, extensive pre-departure information and project orientation.
