In April 2009, WorldTeach will begin an exciting new year-long program that will send up to 20 volunteers to teach in public elementary and high schools in the Nakhon Phanom Province in Northeastern Thailand. Nakhon Phanom lies along the Mekong river on the border of Laos, in the far northeastern part of Thailand known as Isan.
Volunteers will teach English at schools throughout the province, in both city and rural settings. Volunteers will teach in English, but the national language is Thai, and the local language is Isan, the language of eastern Thailand, which is a mix of Lao and Thai. The students you will be teaching are among the most underprivileged in the country, and the impact your presence as a volunteer teacher will have on them will undoubtedly be life-changing, as will their impact on you.
