Teach conversational English to elementary and secondary school students in China, Ecuador, Ghana, Greece, Hungary, India, Italy, Peru, Poland, Romania, South Africa, Tanzania, and to immigrants in the USA’s Heartland. Often teaching is done through simple conversation along with a local teacher in school classrooms or at intensive summer camps where lessons take place in a variety of non-traditional settings. On some days, you'll meet your students for informal English language training. At other times, instructions may take the form of field trips, scavenger hunts, games or other organized events. You'll usually teach four to six hours a day, Monday through Friday, and have two to four hours each day to collaborate with your teammates and prepare for class.
Teach conversational English to University students in China, Mexico and Vietnam. As a volunteer, you will enter into a privileged relationship with these young adult learners. Often, students who are too timid to practice English skills in class in front of their professors will eagerly open up in the presence of a friendly volunteer, who can relate to them in an informal, non-judgmental way. Any native English speaker can be an important resource -- no previous teaching experience is required. You'll meet in classrooms, often in small groups and practice language skills and pronunciation. The focus is on English conversation, not grammar, so only your own creativity is needed. Each class follows a syllabus and uses texts which guide the volunteers through daily lessons. Team members often add examples from their personal lives to liven up the conversations.
Help English language teachers improve their understanding of the language in China. While they are skilled in the rules of grammar and sentence structure, their ability to pronounce English correctly varies.
