Join this unique conservation project and work with the national botanical and zoological gardens of Madagascar (Parc). As a volunteer you will help gather information on several different species of lemur and assist with vital conservation work. You will monitor changes in the extremely vulnerable ecosystems of Madagascar, and care for captive lemurs. Working with a team of volunteers led by highly qualified GVI staff, you will play an active, hands-on role in this unique lemur conservation program.

*How this program makes a difference*

Seventy-one species of lemur have been found living in Madagascar, all of which are critically dependent on the remaining forest habitats of this large island. Unfortunately the rate of deforestation is high and still increasing, putting many lemur species on the brink of extinction. GVI and their local project partners focus on the spiny and littoral forests of the southeast, and gather information to help with the preservation of lemur species for future generations.

Highlights:

  • Live and work in Madagascar
  • Help conserve endangered lemur species
  • Gain experience working with wildlife in the field
  • Work with professionals from Duke Primate Institute and Parc
  • Spend a week at the captive breeding program in Antananarivo
  • Camp at some of the most beautiful campsites in the world
